Thanks for a wonderful Cocoa Cup 5K
It was a crisp winter morning last Saturday as the community gathered for the third annual Cocoa Cup 5K!
The one mile fun-run was a perfect way to warm up for seasoned racers, but also packed with adorable kiddos some who were impressively fast! The official 5K, executed by Fleet Feet Sports, was more than impressive to watch. More than 1500 runners left Brown Family Park, sped down Brighton Park Boulevard, and looped around Nextons signature Brighton Park. The fastest runner clocked in at 17 minutes and 19 seconds! If you ran the 5K, you can check your time here.
As the sky turned blue and the weather warmed, participants enjoyed some fun in the winter sun in the Cocoa Cup Village, sponsored by Home Telecom. DJ Natty Heavy provided the perfect soundtrack to our morning. A few of Santas elves impressed us with their juggling skills, Elsa took photos with eager kids (thanks for inviting her, C.T. Lowndes), Rainbow Child Care painted festive holiday faces, and Land Rover West Ashley hosted a fireside smores roast. It was our favorite after-party yet!
Of course, many a cup of warm cocoa was enjoyed! Some carried on the fun at Carolina Ale House they opened up early to celebrate the completion of another fantastic Cocoa Cup.
As always, a big thanks to our wonderful partners for making this years Cocoa Cup 5K a success: Home Telecom, Courtyard Marriot, CPM Federal Credit Union, Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Rainbow Child Care Center, Parks at Nexton Apartments, Karst, Summerville Journal Scene, Carolina Ale House, SCE&G, C.T. Lowndes & Company, Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union, Land Rover West Ashley, Summerville Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, and Harris Teeter.
And thanks to everyone who attended for a fantastic third annual Cocoa Cup 5k. See the photos from the event here. We cant wait until next year!
