SCHOOLS

the classroom is at the heart of nexton

Families at Nexton benefit from access to strong, well-established schools within the Berkeley County School District. The community is served by Nexton Elementary School and Midtown Middle School, both designed to support growing enrollment with modern facilities and a focus on student success. As students advance, they attend Cane Bay High School, known for its wide range of academic and extracurricular offerings. In addition, families have access to a variety of preschool programs and private school options nearby, offering flexibility to meet diverse educational needs at every stage.

Preschools

Having a preschool and daycare within the community, makes the all-important choice of which place is best for your child that much easier. And more convenient. Statistically, by the time they’re two, children who’ve been in pre-school programs since they were babies reach those milestones six weeks ahead of their peers. At five, kids are almost nine months ahead. Children who attend their programs for a year or longer consistently test at a first grade level for reading and math before they even start elementary school. Both KinderCare and The Goddard School offer quality daycare within Nexton.

K-12

It’s been estimated that over half of today’s grade-school students will end up in jobs that haven’t been invented yet. So it’s a good thing Berkeley County schools provide tablet computers for every student, creating the possibility of learning experiences we’ve only begun to imagine. Add in programs like a coding club and digital citizenship and you have schools preparing students for whatever the future may hold.

About Berkeley County School District (BCSD)

The Berkeley County School District (BCSD) is one of the most forward-thinking districts in South Carolina, serving more than 38,000 students with a focus on innovation, technology, and real-world readiness. Families are drawn to BCSD for its strong emphasis on STEM and hands-on learning, where students benefit from STEAM programs, career and technical education pathways, and opportunities that go beyond the traditional classroom.

Digital learning is a cornerstone of the district, with a 1:1 technology model that provides every student with a Chromebook and access to thousands of smart classrooms—helping prepare students for college and modern careers from an early age. Academic performance continues to trend positively, with students consistently performing at or above state averages across core subjects and recent years showing measurable gains in reading and overall achievement.

Beyond academics, what truly sets BCSD apart is its strong sense of community. Active parent involvement, including engaged PTAs and community partnerships, helps create a supportive environment where students can thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Combined with a focus on critical thinking, collaboration, and life skills—not just test scores—BCSD offers an educational experience that prepares students for whatever path they choose next.
