Principal for the day at Nexton Elementary
As all students and parents are well aware, the end of the school year is fast approaching. This was Nexton Elementarys very first, and what a year it has been! The schools accolades and accomplishments number in the dozens - more on those coming soon.
Our Community Marketing Manager, Tara Pate, had the opportunity to act as Principal for the Day this spring, so we recently picked her brain on what stands out about Nexton Elementary. Heres what she had to say:
There's never a dull moment at Nexton Elementary! I was so blown away by the students, teachers and technologically enhanced curriculum.
I knew before going in that Nexton Elementary is a 1:1 technology school, but what intrigued me the most was discovering just what that really means. To put it simply, they use technology to enhance and create personalized learning paths so that the teachers can help better tailor a students curriculum. Because teachers receive real time feedback through the technology applications they use, they are better able to help those who fall behind or encourage others to move at a more rapid pace.
I was also impressed to learn Nexton Elementary has recently been awarded the Common Sense Digital Citizenship certification, meaning students understand the safety of cyberspace as well as how to properly handle and maintain their personal device.
Beyond the incredible technology aspects, I was also able to check out the classrooms, cafeteria and beginning stages of the school garden. I was especially excited to see the students checking out real books at the library- particularly important in our screen-focused society.
Mrs. Leigh is a phenomenal leader to her staff and mentor to the children. I can't wait to see what else she comes up with!
