Class Is Almost in Session: Midtown Middle School in Nexton Opens This Fall
A major milestone for Nexton families is here.
The ribbon was officially cut on Midtown Middle School, which will welcome its first students in August 2026 and become the newest addition to Berkeley County School District and the next step in Nexton's growing network of educational opportunities.
Located in the heart of Midtown, the new school will serve grades 6-8 and help meet the educational needs of the growing number of families choosing to call Nexton home.
A School Built for a Growing Community
For many families, access to quality schools is one of the most important factors when choosing where to live. The opening of Midtown Middle creates a new option close to home for students transitioning from elementary school and reflects the continued investment in educational infrastructure happening alongside Nexton's residential and commercial growth.
The school's location allows many families to remain connected to the community they already know and love while shortening commutes and creating additional opportunities for involvement in school activities, athletics, clubs, and events.
Meet the Principal
Leading Midtown Middle School is Principal Lynsey May, an experienced educator and administrator who has spent more than two decades serving students in Berkeley County School District.
Principal May most recently served as principal of Sedgefield Middle School and has built a reputation for fostering strong school culture, academic achievement, and meaningful relationships with students and families. As Midtown Middle's founding principal, she is helping establish the vision, traditions, and expectations that will shape the school's future for years to come.
Building a Team from the Ground Up
Opening a new school is a unique opportunity - not just for students, but for educators as well.
Throughout the past year, Midtown Middle has assembled a team of teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff who are excited to help launch the school's inaugural year. Together, they are creating the programs, traditions, and learning environment that will define the school's identity from day one.
For students joining the inaugural class, that means being part of something special: helping establish the culture and traditions that future generations of Midtown Middle students will inherit.
Part of a Growing Educational Ecosystem
Midtown Middle joins a growing collection of educational opportunities within and around Nexton. From early childhood education providers to Nexton Elementary School and nearby high school options, including Cane Bay High School, families have access to learning opportunities that support students through every stage of their educational journey.
As Nexton continues to grow, investments in schools remain an important part of creating a connected community where families can learn, work, play, and thrive.
With its first school year just weeks away, Midtown Middle School is ready to begin writing its first chapter - and Nexton families will have a front-row seat.
