PulteGroup donating Nexton home to veterans family

PulteGroups Built to Honor Program has joined forces with Military Warriors Support Foundation to donate a new, mortgage-free home in Nexton to a veterans family. Stacey Freiwald and her 11-year-old daughter, Jasmine, will be honored at the Charleston RiverDogs playoff game on Friday, September 9, 2016 with the news that they are the recipients.

We are so appreciative of this opportunity in making our dreams come true of being in a neighborhood where Jasmine can ride her bike and play outside with friends, says Stacey Freiwald. It hasn't been an easy road, but moving to Charleston gives us a new beginning where we can be near family.

Stacey Freiwald lost her husband Chief Petty Officer Jason Freiwald on a mission in Afghanistan to capture Taliban commanders on September 11, 2008. CPO Freiwald began his service with the U.S. Navy in 1996 and served with SEAL Team 3, SEAL Team 5 and NSWDEVGRU, also known as SEAL Team 6. Since that time, Stacey has gone back to school with plans to pursue a nursing degree, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro twice, attempted to swim the English Channel, and volunteered with non-profits traveling to third-world countries.

Jason Freiwald gave the ultimate sacrifice. PulteGroup is proud to honor him by supporting Stacey and Jasmine in doing what we do best building homes, says Charlie Tipton, the Companys division president for Coastal Carolinas. Today marks an important milestone as Stacey and Jasmine get a fresh start in the Charleston area and we get started on making their dream of owning their first home come true.

The Freiwald family chose the Sweetgrass home design, which is a 1,802 sq. ft. home featuring three bedrooms, a large kitchen with island overlooking the eat-in nook and great room. It will be ready for them to move into before the end of the year, just in time to celebrate the holiday season. The home is in collaboration with dozens of local trade contractors and building partners.

We are excited to welcome the Freiwalds into the Nexton community, where they'll enjoy acres of green space, parks and trails, Brighton Park Swim Club, and community events, concerts and festivals.

Help us welcome the Freiwalds to Nexton

During the homebuilding process, there will be several opportunities for the Charleston community to support the Freiwald family.

  • On Saturday, September 10, a groundbreaking event and block party will be hosted at the swim club in Brighton Park Village at Nexton. The event will feature a band and food trucks and give Stacey and Jasmine an opportunity to meet their new neighbors.
  • In October, a Notes of Love event will be held where the community can write blessings, words of encouragement and support on the wall studs to envelope the home in love before the drywall is placed.
  • November 10, a fundraising event and silent auction will be held.
  • Move-in day will be held December 16. Stacey and Jasmine will see their finished home for the first time.

This will be the fourth home dedicated in South Carolina through the Built to Honor program, and is in partnership with the Military Warriors Support Foundation, which supports our nations wounded heroes as they transition out of the military and into civilian life. Since 2013, the Coastal Carolinas division has delivered homes to wounded veterans in the cities of Beaufort, Ladson and Myrtle Beach.
