BUILDING BIG DREAMS FOR OUR LITTLEST NEIGHBORS: Habitat for Humanity Playhouse Build

At Nexton, the holiday season shines bright with a commitment to giving back and spreading joy. This December, our team enthusiastically joined forces with Dorchester Habitat for Humanity for an incredible event – The Play House Project. This heartwarming initiative fulfills the holiday dreams of children in need by crafting personalized playhouses just in time for Christmas.

The turnout this year was nothing short of inspiring. Countless teams, including our spirited Nexton crew, united at the Lowe's Distribution Center on Daniel Island to lend a hand and turn dreams into vibrant, tangible realities.

This event, meticulously organized by Moriah Hollander, exceeded all expectations. Around 20 teams participated, each entrusted with the delightful task of building a playhouse tailored to a child between the ages of 5 to 10. Their only guideline? To align the creation with the child's unique interests and preferences.

The Nexton team set out to create a haven for little Corey, a 4-year-old brimming with an uncontainable passion for everything trains. Our mission? To fashion a playhouse that echoed Corey's love for locomotives, complete with nods to Thomas the Tank Engine. Challenge accepted, and joyously conquered!

Armed with pre-cut walls, trim, and detailed instructions, our dedicated team embarked on a journey of creativity and care. Volunteers meticulously painted, laid train-themed carpets, adorned the space with lego delights, crafted a functional train station boasting a railroad crossing arm, and even hung up a train conductor cap, completing the magical train-themed sanctuary for Corey.

While our focus centered on trains, other teams' designs soared to impressive heights. From a NASA space house to giant ladybugs and dinosaur safaris, each playhouse was a testament to boundless creativity and generosity.

As the day drew to a close, the eagerly anticipated reveal approached. Families arrived, greeted by their personalized playhouses and the builder teams. The joy that lit up the children's faces was simply priceless - a testament to the incredible sense of community and compassion that flourishes in events like these. Lowe's volunteers extended a helping hand, ensuring the safe delivery of these treasured gifts to the families’ homes shortly after.

Our team here at Nexton extends profound gratitude to our passionate volunteers. Your enthusiasm and compassion brought Corey's dream to life. We hope this train-themed haven will spark endless adventures and heartwarming memories for Corey and his family in the years ahead.
