Why we chose Nexton, SC: Kristy & JP's story | From a South Pacific island to home
Moving to Nexton was a big change for Christy and JP Potter. A really big change.
Before making their home here, the Potters were living on a small island in the South Pacific. When they decided it was time for their next chapter, they began looking for a place that offered warm weather, plenty of opportunities to get outside, and a lifestyle where everyday conveniences were close at hand.
Their search eventually brought them to Nexton.
Finding the Right Place
The Potters explored several destinations before discovering Nexton, but something about the community immediately felt different.
Bike paths and trails were high on their wish list, along with access to the beach, restaurants and shopping, and a neighborhood that would make it easy to get out and enjoy the outdoors. They also wanted a place that felt welcoming, connected and comfortable enough to lock the door and travel when adventure called.
Nexton checked the boxes. But it was the feeling they found here that ultimately made the decision.
“This feels like it could be home,” Christy remembers thinking.
Building a Home From Thousands of Miles Away
Of course, choosing Nexton was only part of the adventure. The Potters also decided to build a new home with New Leaf Builders while they were still living overseas.
Thanks to weekly progress videos, updates and checklists from the New Leaf team, they were able to follow the construction process from afar and feel connected to their new home long before they arrived.
Today, they love the details that make their home distinctly theirs, from the open floor plan and abundant natural light to a design that feels anything but cookie-cutter.
And just outside their front door is the lifestyle they were hoping to find. They can hop on their bikes and head to dinner or the grocery store, hit the trails, spend time at the pool and enjoy the community around them.
It’s a long way from a tiny island in the South Pacific. But for the Potters, Nexton feels right at home.
