Midtown Middle School Reaches New Heights
Progress is moving right along at the future Midtown Middle School, and it just hit another exciting milestone. The highly anticipated school, set to open in August 2026, has officially reached its highest point in construction.
To celebrate, the project team recently hosted a traditional “topping off” ceremony, a moment that marks the placement of the final beam atop the structure. It’s a significant step in the building process and a symbol of how much closer this important addition to the community is to becoming a reality.
Located in the heart of Midtown, the school is being built with the same thoughtful planning that defines everything at Nexton. Once complete, it will serve students and families right here in the neighborhood, making morning drop-offs easier and afternoons more walkable.
Why Education Matters Here
From the start, education has been a cornerstone of the Nexton vision. This community was designed with learning in mind - not as an afterthought, but as a foundational piece of what makes life here so well-rounded.
That intentionality shows in both planning and partnerships. Schools are not only integrated into the fabric of the community, they’re supported by walkable streets, connected trails, and thoughtful development that encourages families to stay engaged in their children’s education.
Nexton Elementary was the first step, opening its doors in 2015 as part of the Berkeley County School District. Located right within the neighborhood, it offers convenience and a strong sense of community. Families love that kids can walk or bike to school, and that school events feel like community events too.
Nexton also offers a range of early childhood options, like The Goddard School and Nexton KinderCare, providing enriching environments for younger learners. These centers help establish a love for learning early on and give working parents peace of mind with convenient, trusted care just minutes from home.
The upcoming Midtown Middle School is the next major milestone, one that supports the natural progression of learning within the neighborhood. It means families can put down roots and stay here longer, with more of the educational journey covered close to home.
And the commitment doesn’t stop at K–12. A number of higher learning institutions are all within reach, whether you're in persuit of a degree or just want to learn a new skill. Nexton families have access to a wide range of options that enable lifelong learning.
In short, Nexton gets that great communities grow from strong foundations—and that includes education. Whether your child is just starting preschool or prepping for high school, there's a path forward here that feels close, connected, and supported.
Stay tuned for more updates as construction continues and we get closer to welcoming students through those doors!
